Christmas in the Courtyard

Something crazy happened here today! These drugs I'm taking have given me some kind of super energy, despite the fact that I'm not well yet. I'm still hacking and wheezing, but I'm like the energizer bunny. Someone needs to flip off my switch. I suspect it may be the prednisone or the inhaler I'm using.

The boys took off this morning for work and forgot to walk Saby, so she and I set off around 8:30 a.m. for a little jaunt. When we returned, I decided to snap a few Christmas photos in the courtyard.

I've been making a few more beaded bracelets, so I decided I needed to mail some of those. I cleaned up and left for the post office. I stopped at Walgreen's on the way where the clerk was also hacking. I'm a germaphobe, so I was a little freaked until I realized I'm armored with my super doses of antibiotics.

The post office was fairly quick because I used the self-service machine in the lobby. Those are a godsend! I decided I had enough energy to do a little bit of Christmas shopping at Kohl's. I must have been in there for a couple of hours. I managed to complete almost all of my Christmas shopping, and headed back towards home a little after 2:00 p.m.

When I came back in the door, there were four messages on the phone, all from my mother. She'd been frantically calling all day, assuming the worst. She was convinced I'd been hospitalized? I think I sound a lot worse on the phone than I feel.

I kind of collapsed on the sofa, but got my second wind when Craig came home. We took off to the local Mexican joint for a quick dinner, then returned to Kohl's for him to look at watches. Back home around 8:00 p.m., we put in a movie.

And here I sit at midnight posting some of the Christmas decorations in my courtyard. I've GOT to go to bed! If only I could sleep. I'll be done with the prednisone on Sunday, so hopefully I'll come down from the high then. It's too bad I can't retain some of this energy after I'm done with the meds!

The bamboo now shares its pot with holiday greens!

I waited until I returned from Isla Mujeres in mid-November to plant my winter pots, so the flowers have been slow to grow. But I was surprised to see the geraniums starting to bloom!

An old locker basket filled with pinecones and Christmas ornaments now temporarily occupies the birdies' favorite perch.

My bucket of winter succulents is slowly starting to take off.

I tied some old glass ornaments on my Christmas wreath this year to change it up a little.

Now, off to bed! Too bad I don't have any sleeping pills!

Your courtyard always looks so great, Beck. Now that I'll have a yard again (but not one from hell), I'm looking forward to puttering again. Glad you're feeling better!
