First Beach Love

There was another destination that started this whole beach love thing. Our former obsession was Kauai, the Hawaiian island known for its lush vegetation, beautiful beaches, and funky feel.

It's been awhile -- at least four years. I was just thinking on Sunday that it's time for a return trip. Our favorite time to go is September, when the summer vacation crowds are fading and the water's still warm enough to snorkel on the North shore. We always dreamed of staying longer than the standard vacation. Maybe next time!

Kauai, where sun, clouds, rain, and jungle lend an almost mystical feel.

Where if you look closely, time seems to have stood still.

With beaches so beautiful, they don't look real!

And rustic rules despite all the big resorts.

Where little boys swap fishing stories on the pier in late afternoon.

I hope we get the chance to return soon.

Humuhumunukunukuapuaa !

Fun name to say (official state fish) and among the lyrics to "I want to get back to my little grass shack..."

My favorite songs by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole are Living In a Sovereign Land and Somewhere Over The Rainbow!

Most of my sister in law's family lives there. The grandparents retired there many years ago & one by one the kids & grandkids followed. Hopefully we will make it there someday!

drgeo, I have fond memories of listening to a little group play that song in the Hanalei Shopping Center. And I love Iz! Listen to him every morning when I'm walking.
Ann, you need to get there and visit. It's beautiful!

Ahhh... I was on Kauai in 1970 (before Hurricane Iniki by several years). Stayed at Poipu Beach and visited Taylor Camps at the end of the road. It is another beautiful island.

Judy, I remembered someone had visited the Taylor Camps! They came out with a documentary about it several years ago, but I haven't seen it. It fascinates me since the property was up in the area where I'd like to stay next time! (within walking distance of Tunnels and Ke'e beaches)
