Victor's Casa Havana Cafe

I hated to hear that Victor's Cuba Libre Hidalgo location had closed, so I was very happy to find his new restaurant, Casa Havana Cafe, open up the hill on Juarez across from the Navy base. One evening in June, we took a short stroll down the street from where we were staying at Caribbean Casa to the new Casa Havana Cafe.

It's a great addition to the Juarez neighbhorhood!  Look for the gates with the license tags and the lit menu board out front! Victor's new location offers seating on the malecon out back, so it's a nice alternative to hot Hidalgo on summer evenings.

The menu is much the same as it was at the Hidalgo location, with nightly specials added.  Craig and I were tempted to try something new, but couldn't resist ordering our favorite fish dishes.

When we arrived, we were the first people seated at a table on the malecon, but soon four tables were filled with customers enjoying the cool breeze and crashing waves.  When the waiter arrived with our order, I actually gasped because the platters were huge!  (We both managed to clean our plates.)  Our Havana and Creole fish dishes were both wonderful! For more photos of Victor's food and restaurant, like his Facebook page.

The walls of Casa Havana are lined with photos and postcards from Cuba, including this collage of the young Fidel.

Below is Casa Havana Cafe in daylight!  Look for the gates with the license tags.   There's an entrance on the front off Juarez, and you can also enter through the back door on the malecon when he's open.

As always, we loved Victor's food! We'll be back for more next trip!

So glad you posted this Becky. Been reading about the rooms for rent too. Pass by this place, but never realized there were rooms to rent and now a restaurant! This is a must do next trip!
