The Weekend Update

Richard continues his lei tour of the Hawaiian Islands,

the petunias are abloom,

the desert hibiscus are wildly blue,

and Miss Saby got her groove back!

She's all clean and fluffy now!

And what would the weekend update be without a rant! When will the Bumpuses fly back to their summer nest? Not soon enough! Actually, I call them the Bumpuses, but they're a lot like the Beverly Hillbillies. They let the cement pond go green last summer!

Anyway, that damn hillbilly neighbor of ours gets up before dawn and makes cellphone calls right outside our open bedroom windows. Before 6 a.m. On and on and on. Yeah, I'm out in the hot tub now. No you're not -- you liar! You're standing next to our wall on the side of your house! Then he and his visiting bud have a loud hee haw out by their pool around 6 a.m. -- hooting and laughing it up. This morning, I clapped my hands at him like some old school marm -- but he still didn't shut up!

The mass hole also parks his decrepid pickup truck directly in front of our house so there's no place for our guests to park. And works on cars in his garage at the crack of dawn -- in violation of numerous city ordinances and neighborhood regulations. He's bringing in wrecked cars, restoring and selling them. Corvettes. Nice and quiet when he revs them up. We missed the big showdown, but evidently some neighbor sicked the authorities on him -- the state motor vehicle department for not licensing the cars in the State of Arizona, the cops for running a business out of his home in violation of city code, and the HOA. (Smirk smirk smirk -- and it's not us!) According to the neighbor on the other side, both the state and local cops visited his house in the past two weeks. I guess I do a poor imitation of Mrs. Cravitz since I missed it all!

Craig, always the voice of calm, assures me that the snowbirds will be flying back to their summer nests in another month. (Actually Craig bitches as much as I do about them!)

Terrorized by tight lots! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I Shot the Sheriff . . .

But I did not shoot no deputy . . .

Oh, the things we do to this dog. :)

Christmas Is For Kids!

And Saby's the only real 'kid' in the family. Actually, in dog years, I guess she's 63, but she still acts like a kid! Michael got her lollipops for Christmas and she loves them. She also got a giraffe puppet and a new squirrel (since she turned the old one into roadkill).

She was busy the entire day sniffing out meat. Here she's stalking the turkey.

Then at breakfast, I saw her peeping over the edge of the table.

And then, shockingly, she was UP on the table!

I swear to God, we were not terrible parents the first time around.

Of course, she had some encouragement from her big brother.

Saby's Got Back!

Unlike her mama, Saby's best feature is her backside. People just can't help staring at that tail and making comments. It reminds me of the top tassel on a Victorian era soldier's hat. A man down the street seriously accused us of tying that tail up with a rubberband and ratting it! Certainly NOT. It's all Saby -- all natural!

And speaking of Saby's best features, she loves to manipulate Craig with her various charms -- those big brown eyes and her toothy smile. Here she is waiting to see if she can sucker Craig into feeding her some bites from his turkey sandwich.

SCORE!

This is Saby's theme song. Ha!

Splish Splash

Okay, enough of the baby humor! Saby's been a Beauty School Dropout for awhile, so Saturday was bath day. I wish I'd gotten a picture of her slinking off when Craig came in to get her for her outdoor scrub. I was glad I wasn't doing it because Saby really holds a grudge. Sometimes she gives the cold shoulder to the perpetrator for at least a day afterwards. Here's some pics. She was NOT a happy camper, but she's getting over it! And she smells and feels so much better!

What are YOU looking at!

The indignity of it!

Man, I could use a drink!

Okay, I admit it. I feel better! :)

Saby the Wonder Dog

The choice of song is tongue in cheek, but I guess she almost IS our everything! What a spoiled little princess. Her start in life was a little spotty, having been abandoned in front of a supermarket in Redmond, Washington. She was left tied to a bench with no water. How I wish I could have seen her as a puppy! I bet she was adorable with her furry Chow/Shepherd face. Saby was once again left at the age of seven, but this time reluctantly and out of necessity. Her well-meaning owner left her temporarily in my son's care with every intention of coming back for her quickly. But that was not to be. Then she was evicted from my son's apartment and we agreed to take her in for just a little while. Temporary turned to permanent, including a move from the forest to the desert. And now she's finally home to stay! I'm amazed at the versatillity she's shown in being able to adapt to so many changes in such a short life. It took about two seconds to switch her hobby from squirrels to pigeons. :) For Saby, it truly has been a crazy journey!
