Although I wish we were still on Isla, we're spending the 4th here at home in Phoenix visiting with some of the friends from Fourth of July's past. Last night, we ate pizza with good friends from our Midwest days. I distinctly remember watching the village fireworks with them back in the early 80's on a blanket at the football stadium. We'll also be cooking burgers and yucking it up with a neighbor from Washington State tomorrow. Lots of good memories of Fourth of July's past!
Last year we celebrated the Fourth of July on Isla, watching the post election celebrations in the street below the condo. Here are some red, white, and blue pics from our June trip.
It looks like a hot hot time here in Phoenix! How hot is it? We were at the grocery store tonight and what sounded like a bomb exploded in the parking lot. I ran into the grocery store fearing the worst. Turns out it was a car tire imploding from the excessive heat.
We topped the thermometer at 119 today with an overnight low of 90 degrees expected. Hope everyone has a safe and fun Fourth of July!

119! And i thought Isla was bad....Happy 4th!!
Red, White and Blue photos - you nut! Anyway, enjoy the weekend!
On a sad note, they had an article in the paper today about temps in excess of 140 degrees in Sheriff Joe's tent camp. Seems un-American and inhumane to me, especially since those people are the minor offenders.
Ann, Isla's a different kind of heat. The humidity really got to us in the first week of the trip. Sue, I saw that device on Picnik and had to try it! Hope you're staying cool on Isla.
Happy 4th of July!
Wow! At 119 degrees you could throw lobsters in your pool and they would be ready to eat by dinnertime! Be sure to wear flip flops on the pool apron!
Jana, wish I had one of your special Fourth of July cupcakes!
drgeo, we actually got a reprieve on the Fourth with a high of only 104, but this time of year, you don't dare walk anywhere without flip flops! The pool's usually into the 90's by July, but June was cooler than normal and our overnight low's are still in the 80's, so the pool's a decent temp. I actually love it when it turns into a gigantic hot tub!
Oh my LORD!!! The heat index must read: "HELL!!!"
Linda -- LOL! It's weird, but after returning from Mexico, Craig and I aren't as bothered by the heat. We had that one horrid day and the temps are now moderated down below 110. Anything below 110 is no problem. I think our blood has finally thinned out after 5 years.
