It's that time of year! The eggs are hatching. This mama was really protective, so it was hard to get a good photo. Hopefully a few of these cute little babies will survive! It's really hard to watch the numbers dwindle from week to week. Last year eight ducklings quickly dwindled to one lone survivor. Craig counted seven ducklings with this mama. I'll keep you posted!

Cute! That sure is some blue water.
Vee, not sure why it's so blue because the liner on the fake pond isn't blue. Must be the reflection of that blue Arizona sky.
Great pic and cute babies!
Great pics to go with the title of my favorite book as a child! Sweet.
I've been thinking about this Beck and I'm wondering why the mortality rate is so different here. Last year we watched two ducky families front almost birth.
One family matured and moved on with their lives. The other family were special needs ducklings. The babies kept getting bigger and bigger and mom was still diving for fish to feed them. They were lazy ducklings! Mom seemed to be getting smaller, probably because she had to work so hard to feed her lazy kids.
Jeanie, I think it's cats and coyotes that get the ducklings? Cats from the neighborhood, and coyotes from the rural area around us? At least that's my guess.
